Mens Connection

The Men's Connection was founded in 2005 by Al McLaughlin and is currently under the leadership of Dave Face. The group was originally organized as - and remains - a way to minister to the men of Macland, offering them an opportunity for fellowship and spiritual growth.

The Men's Connection meets every Friday morning from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the church. The group is open to all men, of any age and/or status (married, single, etc.). The morning starts with a delicious breakfast together - best breakfast you'll ever get for $3 bucks - followed by a special message from one of the men and a closing prayer. Dave Face explains, "Each week we have a different man speak - a volunteer - and that person can speak about anything that is spiritually meaningful to him. To date, we've had mostly personal testimonies of faith; however, since most of the men have now shared their walk with Christ, we are planning to explore more 'topical' issues such as living into Christ's resurrection power, how to "enter the throne of grace with boldness" (Heb. 4:16), and how to be a strong and loving father/husband.

In addition to sharing their time and testimonies with each other, men in the Connection work to support the ministry of the church in a variety of different ways. Members of the group who have a cause or concern they would like to serve are welcome to make an announcement and call for volunteers. To date, the Men's Connection group has helped one of its members move, participated in the prayer walks conducted by the church, and supported a number of other outreach and service ministries sponsored by Macland (i.e. car wash, block party, etc).

When asked what being a part of the Men's Connection has meant to him, Dave says: "I stumbled into one of the breakfasts last year, and I've been hooked ever since! Seeing a bunch of guys growing towards God and learning to help and support one another has given more meaning to my faith. It has meant so much to me to see how God is working in the lives of men at Macland. It's given me courage and strength to do what God is calling me, personally, to do. It's been a non-threatening way to allow me to test my gifts and grow in my life with Christ. These men are the best!"

Approximately 30 men are already involved in the Men's Connection, but Dave says there is always room for one more (or two, or three, or four . . .). In fact, Dave would like to see the group grow to as many as fifty (50!) participants in the coming year. "There are no sign-ups, no requirements . . . all you have to do is show up. We'll welcome you at 7 a.m., feed you physically and spiritually, and have you out by 8 a.m. so you can get to work if you need to. Any man is welcome, and we would love to have our brothers in Christ join us".
