Prayer Room

Macland Presbyterian now offers a quiet place to pray. You will find our Prayer Room in the hallway to the left of the sanctuary. It is available anytime during normal church hours for individuals, couples, families and small groups. You may request that a pastor or elder pray with you.

The room is designed for individualized flexibility. Pray how you are most comfortable – there are chairs for sitting, pillows for kneeling or sitting on the floor. Pray in the lighting in which you are most comfortable - full fluorescent, dimmed incandescent or candlelight. There is even a book light for complete darkness. There is a CD/cassette player with a variety of soothing music if you choose (feel free to bring your own). There are prayer materials to assist you - bibles, a prayer binder with over 150 famous prayers, a Daily Psalm Prayer book to pray in community with Benedictine Monks and other Christians in the world, a book of Psalms and Canticles, even a booklet of prayers for children. More will be added later. There are centuries-old meditation and prayer centering tools for you to try, such as a Holding Cross, a set of Prayer Beads and a Jesus Prayer Rope. You don't need to be a "professional prayer" to use this room!

There is a world map where you can place a marker for a place or a person somewhere in the world that needs prayer. You are encouraged to pray for those markers you find left by others. The actual touching of the map while praying may help you feel more connected to those people and places. There is an Olive Prayer Tree where you can write a prayer request or praise on an olive leaf and pin it to the tree. As with the map, you are encouraged to pray for those requests left by others, touching the leaves, if desired, to feel more connected.

We hope you find our Prayer Room helpful as another path to fully receive God’s precious gift of prayer, and will use it often.
