Macland Presbyterian Church is governed by a community of elders and operated by a staff of people paid and unpaid.
Rev. Zeta T. Lamberson, Associate Pastor for Administration and Christian Education
Zeta brings her passion for ministry and desire to help others know the Biblical story in a way that informs our daily life to Macland. Ordained in 1991 after having served for 15 years as a Church Educator in churches in Virginia, South Carolina, West Virginia and Georgia, Zeta has a love of Christian Education and a wealth of experience with administration in the church. Her first ordained call was to Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta where she served for 11 years. God called Zeta and her husband, Bill, to Macland Presbyterian Church in the summer of 2003 to serve a growing church that needed infrastructure to minster to a booming community.
Zeta grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. She is proud to be an alumni of Presbyterian College, Union-PSCE and Columbia Theological Seminary. She is a Certified Christian Educator, an active member of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators, and Past-President of the South Atlantic & Puerto Rico Region of APCE. In addition to her duties at Macland she serves as Consultant for Nurture for Cherokee Presbytery. Zeta and Bill have two young adult children, Zeta Elizabeth and Bart.
Dr. James O. Speed, Jr., Interim Pastor
Dr. Speed was born in Mobile, Alabama and raised in Birmingham in South Highland Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Davidson College and Columbia Seminary. Ordained in 1957 he has served churches in Montgomery, Alexander City, and Birmingham, Alabama. He worked for the PCUS Board of Christian Education for four years in Richmond, Virginia. His longest and most recent pastorate was at First Presbyterian Church in Marietta Georgia where he served as pastor from 1972-1999. During the time he was at First Presbyterian the church grew from 1,200 top 2,800 members and saw the facilities grow as well.
Dr. Speed has been married to his wife, Flora for fifty-one years. They have four children Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah and Todd, and six grandchildren. Sarah and her husband are ministers in Syracuse, NY. Todd is Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Decatur, Georgia.
Dr. Speed is well know as a leader, listener, counselor, role model and friend He has agreed to preach three Sundays a month, work with the Session in Evangelism and Stewardship and serve as a mentor to our Session and staff.
Judy Jones, Music Director
Judy Jones, Director of Music, is a graduate of Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where she majored in Church Music. Her previous work experience includes: private piano instructor, church organist, and elementary school music teacher in Mississippi, and music director of First Presbyterian Church in Bay Minette, Alabama. She and her husband Ray moved to Marietta in 1993, starting Macland Presbyterian Church as a small group bible study in their living room.
Laura Sinyard, Preschool Director
Laura Sinyard joined us in the spring of 2005 after having taught the Lottery Pre-k program in Marietta for 10 years. Laura grew up in Roswell and is a graduate of Brenau University. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education and holds a current Georgia teaching certificate. Laura, her husband, and their two children live here in Powder Springs.
Carol Thellen, Administrative Assistant
Carol grew up in Marietta and attended Marietta High School and Kennesaw College. Carol joined Macland Presbyterian Church in 1996 as their Administrative Assistant. Carol and her husband Roger enjoy spending time with their two rescued greyhounds and whippet. Carol also enjoys interior decorating and learning to play the piano.
